What are Android TV Boxes

SkystreamX is always on the cutting edge of technology. When we started developing the SkystreamX Android TV Boxes we started to tell our friends about it. They seemed to be mystified and had a hard time understanding what it was. The number one question we got was (Does it have Netflix?) So I decided to write this article to explain a little better about what Android TV Boxes are and what they do. What are Android TV Boxes? Android TV Boxes are in the category of Set Top boxes. A Set Top Box is a small computer that is designed to connect to your TV using an HDMI Cable or AV Cable (SkystreamX can connect using either one and comes with both.) Android Set Top boxes are basically android tablets without a screen. Your TV becomes the screen once you hook up your Android Set Top Box. Android TV Boxes turn your TV into an android tablet with about 2 minutes of set up. If you have ever wished you could use all of your android apps on your TV then an Android TV Box is for you. What do Android TV Boxes do? I could write for hours on this subject, but I am going to break this section into a few categories to save time. An Android TV Box can do everything that a normal Android Tablet or Phone can do, plus much more. Android TV Boxes Android Apps With an Android TV Box you can download and use any Android App in the Google Play store. There are over 800,000+ Android Apps currently available in the Google Play Store. So when people ask what can Android TV Boxes do, it is hard to answer because the possibilities are endless. Here are some popular Android Apps that you can use on an Android Set Top Box. Social Media Facebook Twitter Instagram Linkedin Four Square Tumblr Reddit Games (A USB gaming controller might be needed to play certain games) Candy Crush Subway Surfers Clash of the Clans Farm Heroes Despicable Me Angry Birds Music Pandora Soundcloud Spotify Beats Music Shazam iHeart Radio News The New York Times The Wall Street Journal Barrons The Washington Post The Huffington Post CNET When it comes to Android Apps the Google Play store has you covered. There is literally an app for anything you could possible want to do on an Android Set Top Box. This is one of the many reasons that Android TV Boxes have become so popular recently and have started gaining popularity over closed system set top boxes like Roku. Android TV Boxes – Watching TV & Movies One of the main reasons that people are rushing out to by Android TV Boxes like the SkystreamX is that they want to watch TV, Movies & Live Sports on their TV’s without paying for expensive cable services and premium channels. Google Nexus Android TV Set Top Box Vs SkyStream Android TV Box

skystream vs google chromcast and nexus player

Recently there have been many articles posted on rumors of a Google Nexus Android TV Set Top Box coming to market the 1st half of 2014. Google has always put out good products and services. Obviously one of our favorite things that Google put out was the Android Operating system which we based our SkystreamX Android TV Box around. One area that Google has not had great success in is any project based around TV and cable services. The original Google TV was definitely not up to par and was scrapped in the early part of 2013. While the concept of Google TV was an awesome idea, the execution was not there. This was a surprise as Google has had a great track record on almost all of its projects. Google Android TV The concept behind Google TV was that you could purchase a Google TV box that was based on the Android Platform. You could plug it in, use all of your favorite Android Applications and also stream TV to your home theater. So where did Google TV get its streaming content from? If you guessed Google you would be correct. Google TV was supposed to scour the internet for streams based on what you’re searched for. The problem with Google TV was there simply was not enough content on the places that Google TV searched (Mainly national channels websites.) So after slow sales and poor reviews Google Scrapped the Google TV platform and move onto their next Streaming TV venture, The Google Chromecast. Google Chromecast If you are not familiar with the Google Chromecast it is a small HDMI Dongle that plugs into an HDMI port on your home TV. The Google Chrome cast is very small and only costs $35. Seems like a good deal. But what exactly does the Google ChromeCast do? The Google Chromecast basically acts as a relay between one of your Android Phones or Tablets and your HDMI equipped home TV. While the Chromecast does a have a few other minor features, the main point of buying the Google Chromecast is to transfer video from your android based phone or tablet to your TV. So when you buy your Google Chromecast you will now be able to take any type of video or streaming video that is playing on your Android based phone or tablet and stream it directly to your TV. While this seems to be a neat idea and many people have purchased Google Chromecast HDMI Players, we feel that this is an extra step to view streaming media on your TV with many drawbacks. Here are some of the drawbacks we see in using the Google Chromecast to push streaming media to your HDMI equipped TV. The first drawback is that you will still need to pay for subscriptions to receive all of the streaming video to your android phone or tablet. The second drawback we see with the Google Chromecast is the limited content that you receive with any…
