What are Network Powerline Adapters?

Wi-FI Signal

What are Network Powerline Adapters? Almost everyone has a Wi-Fi router in their house these days. Wi-Fi gives you the convenience of being able to connect many wireless devices to the internet by just connecting to the router and entering the password. Due to its convenience Wi-Fi is extremely common these days. Most cable company modems come with Wi-Fi capabilities, but they normally charge the customer a monthly fee for the privilege of using the Wi-Fi. Click below if you would like to know how to save money each month on your cable bill. While Wi-Fi is great and super convenient, but it does have some downfalls that we will discuss. The first downfall that Wi-Fi has is that it loses speed over distance and through obstacles. The farther you are from your Wi-Fi router, the slower speeds you will get. The more obstacles like walls, glass and furniture the Wi-Fi signal has to go through to get to the device you are using, the slower the speeds are going to be. In the GIF below you can see how a Wi-Fi signal travels through obstacles. You can see how the signal deteriorates over distance and through obstacles. Many customers that we speak to have routers that are on a second or third story, in a basement or are on one end of the house. Most cable company techs look for the easiest place to put the Wi-Fi modem, not taking into consideration where the Wi-Fi will be used in the house. When this happens customers are left with weak Wi-Fi speeds in certain areas of the house. While slow internet speeds and spotty Wi-Fi is not as noticeable or important when casually browning social media, It becomes much more noticeable when you are streaming or gaming which require constant strong internet speeds. If you are on your phone and a website takes twice as long to load it may be annoying, but the website will eventually load. When you are streaming or gaming you need a constant stream of quality bandwidth. This is why we always recommend connecting your Skystream Android TV Box directly to your modem with an Ethernet cord. This provides the fastest and most stable internet connection for your unit. But what do you do when your internet modem is in your basement, second or third floor and your TV is on the first floor? A few years ago you would have to run an Ethernet cord through your walls or attic to bring hardwired internet to another place in your house. If you have ever run wires through your walls or attic, you know that it is not fun and takes a long time. This is where Network Powerline Adapters come into play. Network Powerline Adapters come in pairs. One unit is plugged into a power plug close to your internet Modem. Then an Ethernet cable is plugged into the Network Powerline Adapter. The other end of the Ethernet cable is plugged into the back…

How to speed up your Android TV Box

Android TV Box Task Killer

How to speed up your Android TV Box We wanted to introduce you to a little known feature on the Skystream Android TV Boxes. This is a small feature that can help speed up your X4 or X5 if you open a lot of apps. This feature is very similar to a task killer or app closer that you see on many Android phones and tablets. What this “Task Killer” does is close any apps that are running in the background and hogging the devices RAM. Both the X4 & X5 are very fast Android Boxes and do not need this feature to run fast all of the time. But we thought that we would include it for people who open lots of different apps on a daily basis. Most users will not notice a speed increase due to the fact that both the X4 and X5 Android TV Boxes have very fast quad core processors and have 2 GB of RAM which is more than enough. But if you want to run this task killer we will list out the instructions below. To run the Task Killer you simply need to press and hold the menu button on your Skystream Remote Control. The menu button is the button with 3 horizontal lines on it. When you press and hold the menu button you will see a neat little space ship blasting off. Then you will see a small pop up at the bottom of the screen telling you how much RAM was freed by killing some of the background applications. This is definitely not a mandatory thing that you have to do. But if you use many different applications on a daily basis you may find it useful. IMPORTANT – This should not be done while Kodi is running. This is not a substitute for Closing Kodi Properly. If you do not close Kodi properly you will eventually run into problems. So please do not use this as a substitute for closing Kodi properly.

Android TV Box Settings

Android TV Box Resolution

Android TV Box Settings Here at SkyStream we gets lots of phone calls and emails every day. While these calls all vary, there is usually one common theme to all of them. A setting was changed by the user not knowing what it does and they now do not know how to change it back or fix the issue it caused. This is known here at SkyStream headquarters as “tinkering”. We have noticed that it usually happens 1-3 months after someone gets their SkyStream Android TV Box. We have found that once users get comfortable using their box and are more familiar with the settings, the urge to start messing with settings becomes stronger and stronger. Unfortunately, this is causes most of our customer service calls. In this article we are going to cover some of the settings that you should leave alone. This will hopefully save you time and hassle. Android TV Box Display Settings This is a common issue. I changed the resolution on my SkyStream Box because I thought it would make all the videos play in 1080P. Some people like to tinker with it for whatever reason and end up messing up their box. All SkyStream Android TV Boxes are set to a default setting that recognizes the resolution of the TV to which it’s connected. This was done very specifically so that you can move it from TV to TV and it will work. What people do not realize is that if you change the resolution to a setting that the TV cannot read, you will see nothing on the screen except for an error message from your TV saying that it cannot display that format or resolution. A simple change from 1080P 50 Hz to 1080P 60 Hz can make the SkyStream unit not show up on your TV. This setting only effects the resolution of the unit’s home screen and other pages within the launcher. It has no effect on the resolution of any videos played in Kodi or any other video streaming application. The only display setting you should change is the Display Position which is used to adjust the screen size to fit your TV. Android TV Box Audio & Advanced Settings This is another section where people love to tinker and start changing settings believing that if they change them somehow every video stream will play in Dolby Digital 7.1 (The audio will only play what audio format the stream was created with. So if it says 2.0, It will play in 2.0.) All SkyStream Android TV Boxes are set by default to PCM Audio. This means it sends audio through the HDMI to a TV. The only reason you would need to change this setting is if you have the HDMI coming from the SkyStream unit plugged directly into a sound system and the sound system then feeds the video signal back to the TV with a different HDMI. In that case you would change the setting to HDMI Pass…

What is HDMI CEC

HDMI CEC

What is HDMI CEC Have you ever turned off your TV and your SkyStream Android TV Box turns off as well? If so, this is caused by something called HDMI CEC or HDMI Consumer Electronics Control. For the rest of the article we will simply call it CEC. So what exactly is CEC? CEC is a feature of HDMI 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 which allows different electronic devices to communicate and control other electronic devices through the HDMI cable. For instance CEC can turn off other devices such as a SkyStream Android TV Box when the TV is turned off. It can also be programmed so that when you turn on a device it changes the TV’s input source to the same source as the device that was just turned on. While HDMI CEC can be mildly convenient for home theater junkies with 15 devices connected to their TV; the normal TV owner is normally confused as to why certain devices are turning on and off when they press the power button on their TV. Most people have no idea what HDMI CEC is and have no real use for it. It’s not a very popular feature and most people do not even know that it exists. If you think HDMI CEC might be useful for you and your home entertainment center, Please feel free to do some research and set it up for what you would like it to do. But for the rest of 99.9% of people reading this who have no use for it and find it annoying, we will tell you how to turn off this setting. The best way to make sure that none of the devices connected to your TV do wacky things when you power off your TV is to turn off HDMI CEC in your TV’s settings. While this may sound super easy, it can get confusing depending on what brand or model TV you have in your house. Most of the big name TV manufacturers have come up with some kind of quirky name for HDMI CEC. Whatever clever name your TV manufacturer has come up with for it, rest assured it is simply HDMI CEC with a different name. Below is a list of some of the names that different TV brands have come up with for CEC.   Samsung – Anynet+ Sony – BRAVIA Link or BRAVIA Sync Sharp – Aquos Link Hitachi – HDMI-CEC Vizio – HMDI CEC Pioneer – Kuro Link Toshiba – Regza Link or CE-Link Onkyo – RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) LG – SimpLink Panasonic – VIERA Link or HDAVI Control or EZ-Sync Philips – EasyLink Mitsubishi – NetCommand for HDMI As you can see, it is would be nearly impossible for the average consumer to pick any of these names (besides Hitachi & Vizio) in a setting menu and figure out that it controls other devices through HDMI. Hence the confusion. So if you have any of these models of TVs, go into…

Android TV Box – Adult Streaming Do’s & Don’ts

Mar 14, 2016 3 months ago No Comments
adult streaming

Adult Streaming Do’s & Don’ts SkystreamX Android TV Boxes give users access to all kinds of video content from all over the world. In addition to being able to stream TV Shows, Stream Movies and Live Streaming Sports there is also adult content. With our Android TV Boxes you also have access to the internet and the Google Play store. This gives the user many different avenues for different content. With all of these different avenues for content we always like to write an articles on do’s and don’ts to give our users a clear picture on how to get certain types of streaming content. Android TV Box Adult Streaming When it comes to adult content there are 3 main places you can stream it on our Android TV Boxes. Adult Streaming using the Browser We highly recommend not using your browser to search for adult content. The main reason is the same reason for computers – Viruses. As with any computer when you start going to iffy websites you open yourself up to viruses. Viruses can cause tons of problems on an Android TV Box just like a PC. Websites and developers who create malicious viruses used to only create viruses for computers, but as traffic from mobile devices has exploded many of these developers have switched over to making viruses for mobile devices (Phones, Tablets and Android TV Boxes.) Some of these viruses are mostly harmless and install a different browser, but some of them can steal your personal information and some install code that basically makes your device useless. So please do not search and watch adult content on any Skystream Android TV Box using the browser. One of the most common calls we get are from people who were searching for adult content on the browser and then started experiencing issues. We normally do a factory reset to remove everything and start them from scratch. Adult Streaming Content Apps Downloading adult content apps is one of the worst ways to stream adult content. As we stated earlier, developers have noticed the huge spike in mobile devices and traffic over the past few years. Many of these predatory developers have switched from computers to mobile devices. The reason that downloading Android Adult streaming apps is that a developer can create an app specifically for Android that has viruses in it. Many people download an app, install it without reading all of the permissions that you are granting the application and end up with a program on your Android Streaming Box that now has way more access then an app should. When you install any app on Android you are giving that app certain permissions on your device. This is why downloading apps from unknown sources can put you at risk. We tested downloading a bunch of adult content apps using google searches such as “Porn App Android and adult streaming APK,” on a blank Android TV Box with no personal information. We downloaded 5 of the top Android apps that…
